The internet is a fog of site after site – surfing can lead you on a wild goose chase that sometimes results in hours gone by and you wonder, “where did the time go?!”
Keeping this in mind, can your business easily be found in the internet fog? One way to get the word out about your product or service is through regularly posting fresh content to a blog. This is the first in a series about bringing your business out of the fog with a blog.
I’m going to make a bold statement to bring your business out of the fog. Ready? Every Business Person Today Needs a Blog.
From small service businesses like many of us have to independent contractors to retailers to medium and large corporations, every business nees a blog. I’m here to tell you more about blogs, and over this series of blogposts, give you five reasons why you should have one.
What is a blog?
Blogs are short posts, optimally 300 to 700 words. You don’t want to make it so long that your busy reader gets bored and leaves. Now if you are having mental nightmares of how much you hated term papers about right now, don’t go there…blogs are alot more fun. Why? Because you can put in your opinion. You can flavor them with personal stories, anecdotes and examples while you are providing information of value about your product or service.
Ready for some blog popularity numbers?
Ready for some numbers about blogs? In February 2011 there were over 156 million public blogs in existence. I found a graphic from 2012 reporting that 329 million people read blogs, with 25 billion pages viewed a month (Hubspot.) According to an estimate from the website Blogher, a site for women in social media, 61% of US online consumers have purchased something due to a recommendation from a blog.
If missing out on having those eyeballs on your product or service are not enough for you, tune into my next blogs in this series on why every business today should have a blog!
